BITCH PLEASE (aka I am really excited)

Why hello there. Hi. Hello.

I'm as giddy as a kitten about to be introduced to its new family. I have a kitten called Violet, see here.. she's so cute sometimes I forget to study and just chase her around and annoy her. That's the thing about cats, they never love us as much as we love them.

I like to think this is Violet's "bitch please" moment. Which brings me back to the original point of this post.

Next weekend is the opening of the latest NGA exhibition, Space Invaders: Australian Street Stencils Posters Paste-ups Zines Stickers. Read that second last word again my friends. Dear old NGA are not only throwing this sure-to-be-excellent exhibiton from 30 October 2010 - February 2011, they're also opening up their foyer and letting the zine stalls flood in on opening weekend.

So please come along and check out all the new zines we have and all the other sellers from around the nation. It will be EXCELLENT. Read EXCELLENT. 11am - 4pm.

If you have any last minute zine contributions you'd like us to take along, email us at littlebeatszines@gmail.com. All fan mail for Violet can also be forwarded to this address.

Postponed Electric Lake

Ahoho well as soon as my quick fingertips hit 'publish post' on Monday the clouds opened and decided to give Canberra an almighty dump.

Electric Lake II is offically postponed until Saturday November 13.

I'm sure your parents told you this as a child trying to dry your hair in the bathtub, but to reiterate, electricity (of amps etc) and water do not mix. Neither does mud and zines, so it's all really quite relieving news from our end.

All the more time to collect those beloved pennies.

We're finally back in your lives and ready for action!

Hey gang

It's been a ridiculously long while, but uni happens when you're not looking and the internet needs to be the first thing to go. So here we are, back again and gearing up for a whole new season of zines.

I'm proud to announce a mass amount of newbies, a list of which will be posted a little later on this week, and hopefully rouse your excitement about a couple of our upcoming dates.

Saturday 16 October ELECTRIC LAKE

YEAH! We'll be there selling zines, looking cool and holding umbrellas in ponchos if the weather does not permit for our paper-loving nature.

Get excited and please bring coins, no one does anymore and it's killing me to keep going into the bank like an old shop-keeper asking for more 50c coins the day before these dos.

Also, check out our new lovely little logo from Melbourne wonder-artist Mel Stringer up the top.

WE ARE NOT OBSCENE

So, I don't about everyone's summer holidays, but I do know that Canberra tradition involves escaping entirely and coming home to brag about whichever far away place(s) you went to, going to the coast a lot, or staying at home and whingeing about how boring this place we call home can be. Luckily for everyone (and I mean everyone),
Stella-Rae Zelnik took a different approach to the 40C heat and decided to piece together the final parts of a long term zine project, and she's bringing it our way.

At 21, Stella-Rae is in her 3rd year of photography, and was looking for a nice little something to do throughout the year. Stella says:
"The zine blossomed when I was looking though a few local artists. I was so impressed with what I was seeing. The quality that was out there was mind blowing. All this stuff just sitting there on the internet. doing nothingNowdays its totally “Ok, next lot!” you know like its always go! go! go! I love the idea of a hard copy, something you can take home a read or just sit it on your coffee table.…So to go about this the easiest way was to do a little zine.. Nothing massive.. But then my ideas got bigger with what I wanted to include. And started making friends with people from out of state, and also out of Australia, so I thought I would add them in, maybe make it a bit more worldly".

And now, WE ARE NOT OBSCENCE ZINE is making it's entry into the world. On the music front we have contributions from the likes of Three Oh Sees (San Francisco), Straight Arrows, The Scare and more...Photography is busted open by Joe Brock, Raine Turnbull, Luke Brown, Bohie Palacek and Stella-Rae herself, and tasty tidbits from skater Chris Haslan and local writer Martin Fleming.

Come to Bar 32 on Thursday 11th February to get your mitts on a copy (it's only $6!) and catch local bands Beat Hotel, Assassins 88 and Killing Birds. It's on from 8pm suckers.

The collecting continues...

Hey you ragged rascals, you!

While you`re all no doubt sweating profusely, shirts and dresses sticking to your backs in our summer heat, sitting impatiently waiting for some news, here I sit, cold as ice in Ireland, with the juice at my fingertips.

Today, or tomorrow, or even the day after that... I will be meeting up with the ladies of BabyBEEFheart, here in Dublin, to swap zines and have a look at what`s coming out on this side of the world. AND I`ve saved some room in my gigantic pack to bring them home for our relaunch party, set to happen early next year.

Maybe I`ll even stick up some pics for you all to salivate over. Further updates soon! If you know of any zines or have one youd like to contribute, as always, email littlebeatszines@gmail.com.

Today is the day you become a man/woman/fully fledged zine distro

it's unlikely there'll be any capitals in this post. not because i think i'm e.e cummings but i'm so darned tired. until the late hours of last night I was lucky enough to:

hang a giant, gold guilded frame and watch ladies walk out of it

raise a checkerboard catwalk for aforementioned ladies to walk on

hang some fairy lights

price and tag some truly beautiful artwork

watch my old pal hubbo fall into a women's rack of clothing

AND

(see i put in effort there.) check, recheck, fold, stack, lie down, prop up, arrange, rearrange and finally repack all the delightful zines we will have for tonight. yep, they're tucked up tight in boxes all numbered and waiting for you to get your hands onto them. so do just that, tonight at:

itrip iskip, Lonsdale Street, Braddon. 6pm onwards.
